# Consentmo Accessibility Scanner

# Accessibility Scanner: Setup and Usage Guide

The **Accessibility Scanner** in Consentmo helps Shopify merchants identify potential accessibility issues across key storefront pages.

It scans selected storefront templates against **WCAG 2.2 AA** criteria and organizes findings by priority, category, affected pages, and items that require manual review.

|| **Important:** The scanner is a helpful automated checking tool. It does not replace a full accessibility audit and does not automatically fix issues.

# What the Accessibility Scanner Checks

The scanner reviews key storefront pages and templates. The exact number of scanned pages can vary by store.

Pages can include:

* Homepage
* Cart
* Product pages
* Collection pages
* Blog
* Search
* Other representative storefront templates

Accessibility checks include areas such as:

* Color contrast
* Headings and structure
* Tables and lists
* ARIA semantics
* Forms and labels
* Links and buttons
* Images and alt text
* Focus and keyboard accessibility
* Language and localization
* Media and motion

# Running a Scan

To start a scan:

1. Open the **Consentmo GDPR** app.

2. Go to **Web accessibility**.

3. Open the **Scan** tab.

4. Click **Start scan now**.

5. Review your score and detected issues once the scan is complete.

* After fixing an issue, run the scan again to check whether it has been resolved and whether your score has improved.

# Accessibility Score

After each scan, Consentmo provides an **Accessibility Score out of 100** together with:

* Risk level
* Number of issues to fix
* Checks requiring manual review
* Number of pages scanned

![](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/b/0/7/f/b07f7406951a4000/svanner-details_dcgg68.png)

The score gives you a quick overview of the accessibility state of the scanned storefront pages.

# Fix These First

The **Fix these first** section highlights the highest-impact issues so you can prioritize what should be reviewed first.

Each issue can show:

* The detected problem
* Priority level
* Pages where it appears
* Whether it affects multiple pages or shared components

If the same issue appears across several pages, it may come from one shared theme component or template.

# Compliance Review by Category

Scan results are grouped into accessibility categories so you can review findings by area.

Each category can show:

* Number of issues
* Items requiring review
* Coverage percentage
* Current status

## Possible Issue Statuses

| **Status** | **Meaning** |
| ---- |
| **Critical** | High-impact issues that should be addressed first. |
| **Important** | Accessibility issues were detected and should be reviewed. |
| **Needs review / Manual review** | The scanner cannot fully determine the result automatically and requires manual verification. |
| **Pass** | No issues were detected for the checks performed. |
| **Not applicable** | No applicable elements were found for that category. |

# Technical Issue Details

Opening an issue provides more information that can help with troubleshooting.

Depending on the finding, this can include:

* Affected elements
* CSS selectors
* Pages where the issue appears
* Device coverage
* Relevant accessibility rule
* Affected user groups
* Applicable WCAG criteria

These details can also be shared with a developer or agency responsible for making storefront changes.

# Scheduled Scans

The scanner also supports **scheduled accessibility scans**.

Scheduled scans are useful for regularly checking the storefront for new or recurring issues.

We recommend running a new scan after:

* Theme updates
* New pages
* Design changes
* Navigation changes
* New apps or scripts
* Major content changes

# Dashboard notifications

In the dashboard of the app you will also see the compliance score form the scanner and keep track on the addressed issues, and also on any new ones that may have appear after a schedule scan

* By going to the **Review accessibility** option there, you will be **taken to the Scanner page directly** to check further details on the listed issues.

# What the Scanner Can Be Used For

The Accessibility Scanner can help you:

* Identify common WCAG 2.2 AA issues
* Prioritize higher-impact accessibility problems
* Find repeated issues across shared templates
* Track improvements after storefront changes
* Provide developers with technical issue details
* Monitor your accessibility score over time

# Important Limitations

Keep in mind that:

* Issues are **not fixed automatically**
* Most fixes require theme, content, or storefront changes
* The scanner does **not check every page** in the store
* Some checks require **manual review**
* A high score does not guarantee complete accessibility or legal compliance
* Automated scanning does not replace a full manual accessibility audit
