# Cookie State Before User Choice – Setup Guide

The **Cookie state before user choice** setting (previously called **Initial Cookie State Settings**) determines which cookie categories are active before a visitor makes a consent choice. This setting affects both privacy compliance and the visitor experience.

# Where to set this

To configure **which cookies** to be **blocked or set initially** you can follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Shopify store and open the Consentmo app.

2. Go to **Cookie banner**.

3. Open the **Behavior**  tab.

4. Under  **Consent model**, select **Show more**

5. Find **Cookie state before user choice** 

# What are my options

The control you have over these cookies can significantly impact your store's compliance and the user experience. 

For instance, you might choose to:

* Check **all** categories to keep them active until the visitor opts out.
* Uncheck **Statistics Cookies** to block analytics until consent is provided.
* Uncheck **Marketing Cookies** to prevent advertising and tracking before consent.
* Uncheck **Preferences Cookies** until the visitor provides consent.
