# Multilingual translation setup for Consentmo GDPR app

If you have **more than one language in the store** and need to **translate the cookie banner to all of them**, please check the **guide below**:


# Default cookie banner language

Once the **installation of the app is complete**, the **Default language of the cookie banner** will be **automatically fetched and set for you**. 

You can **check the default banner language** by following **these steps**:

1. Go to the **Cookie banner** tab

2. Open the **Content** section

3. On **top of the section**, see the **language marked as default** for the cookie banner

The **language** that will be **set for the cookie banner** will be the one **set as a default for the store** in the [Shopify settings](https://gdprstorage.b-cdn.net/faq/gif/Shopify-default-language.gif).


# Multilingual setup

If you need to **add more languages** in which the cookie banner needs to be translated, **please follow the below steps**:

1. Go to the **Cookie banner** tab > **Content** section

2. Locate the **Multilingual cookie banner languages** section

3. **Enable** the multilingual support

4. Select the **language detection method** from the following:

* From **store language** (locale) - **Recommended** if you are already **using a 3rd party translation app**

* From **browser** preferences

* From **IP Address** (geolocation)

* From **URL** (domain.myshopify.com/en)

# Extra languages

* With the **Manage languages** button you can **add the additional languages** you have **published for the store**.

* Once the **languages are selected**, they will be automatically **be enabled** as well.

🌟 **If you already have any languages published** in the store settings **at the time of installing the app on a __paid plan__** they will be **fetched, translated, and enabled** automatically for you.


# Additional options

For each Extra language, you have the option to:

* **Set** it as a new **Default language**

* **Remove** the language from the list

# Edit the content

In case you need to **change the content** for any of the **available languages**, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to the **Cookie banner** tab:

2. Open the **Content** section

3. **Select the language** you want **to change**

4. In the fields for each element of the cookie banner, **set the preferred text, change the privacy Policy link, set an Imprint or another link** for the selected language

# Language suggestions

Consentmo can also suggest additional banner languages based on your recent visitor traffic.

When visitors from a new market start generating enough activity, a language suggestion may appear under **Cookie Banner > Content**.

For each suggestion, you can:

* **Add & auto-translate** – Add the suggested language in one click, automatically translate the cookie banner content, and enable multilingual mode if needed.
* **Review traffic relevance** – Suggestions are based on recent visitor activity, helping you focus on languages that are relevant to your actual store traffic.
*  **Dismiss the suggestion** – If the suggested language is not relevant for your store, you can dismiss it so it is no longer shown.

For example, if your store starts receiving a noticeable amount of traffic from a market using a language that is not currently enabled, Consentmo can recommend adding the corresponding translation.

This helps make sure that visitors can see and interact with the cookie banner in a language that better matches the markets your store is currently reaching.

You can add additional languages manually through the Manage languages button, or use Consentmo’s language suggestions when a relevant new language is detected based on your visitor traffic.
