# Switching CMP: Migrating from Pandectes to Consentmo

# How to Switch from Pandectes to Consentmo

If you're switching from Pandectes to Consentmo, it's important to preserve your existing consent records, remove any leftover integrations, and make sure only one cookie consent platform is active on your Shopify store.

This guide walks you through exporting your data from Pandectes, disabling the previous app, and setting up Consentmo.

## Step 1: Export Your Consent Records from Pandectes

Before uninstalling Pandectes, download your existing consent records so you can keep a history of visitors' consent decisions.

1. Open your **Shopify Admin**.
2. Navigate to **Apps > Pandectes GDPR**.
3. Open **Reports & analytics** from the sidebar.
4. Select **Consents list**.
5. Choose **All** to view your available consent history.
6. Click **Export page** in the upper-right corner to download the displayed records.
7. If your records span multiple pages, export the additional pages as needed.

The report includes consent information such as the visitor's consent choice, date, cookie categories, country, and masked IP address.

**For Enterprise plan users:** Pandectes also provides **Consent archives**, allowing you to download monthly consent records in bulk where available.

|| **Important:** Save these exported files securely for future reference. Historical consent records from Pandectes are not automatically imported into Consentmo.

## Step 2: Export Customer Data Requests

If customers previously submitted data access, correction, portability, or deletion requests through Pandectes, export the available request history before removing the app.

1. In Pandectes, navigate to **Reports & analytics**.
2. Click **Customer data requests**.
3. Open the **All** tab to review requests.
4. Use the **Portability**, **Rectification**, and **Erasure** tabs to review individual request types.
5. Check the request statuses and fulfillment dates.
6. Click **Export page** to download the available records.
7. Save additional pages where applicable.

|| **Note:** Before proceeding, make sure that any pending customer requests are documented and can still be fulfilled after the migration.

## Step 3: Review Pandectes Scripts and Integrations

Pandectes may have additional scripts installed in your Shopify theme or tracking integrations.

Go to **Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > ... > Edit code** and check the `theme.liquid` file for any manually added Pandectes code.

Depending on your previous configuration, you may find:
* `pandectes-rules.min.js`
* `pandectes-rules.js`
* `{% render "pandectes-rules" %}`

Also check custom snippets and other theme files where Pandectes integrations may have been added.

If you're using **Google Tag Manager**, review your container for the Pandectes CMP template, consent initialization tags, and custom triggers that depend on Pandectes.
These configurations will need to be removed or replaced with Consentmo-compatible integrations during the switch.

**Important:** Back up your theme before editing its code. Remove only scripts and configurations that belong to Pandectes, not unrelated Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or other tracking installations.

## Step 4: Review Existing Privacy Pages

Pandectes may have created pages for customer data requests or cookie declarations.

Go to **Shopify Admin > Online Store > Pages** and check for:

* Customer Data Requests page
* Cookie Declaration page
* Other privacy-related pages or integrations created by Pandectes

You can remove pages that are no longer needed, but first make sure their functionality has been replaced. If these pages are linked in your footer or Privacy Policy, update the links to the corresponding Consentmo pages.

| **Tip:** Consentmo's [Smart Privacy Center](https://support.consentmo.com/en/article/smart-privacy-center-privacy-requests-8p4wcp/) allows customers to access privacy choices and submit data requests from one page.

## Step 5: Install and Prepare Consentmo

You can install Consentmo and prepare your settings before disabling the existing Pandectes banner.

1. Open [Consentmo GDPR Compliance in the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/gdpr-backpack).
2. Click **Install** and authorize the app.
3. Open the Consentmo Dashboard.
4. Configure your cookie banner's content, design, and consent behavior.
5. Set up the applicable regions and privacy requirements.
6. Configure the integrations needed for your store, including Google Consent Mode v2, Google Tag Manager, or other tracking services.

Leave the public Consentmo banner disabled until you're ready to deactivate Pandectes. For help with the initial configuration, see our [Consentmo Getting Started guide](https://support.consentmo.com/en/article/first-steps-with-our-app-getting-started-k3w4no/).

## Step 6: Disable the Pandectes App Embed

Before activating Consentmo, disable the Pandectes app embed to prevent the two cookie consent platforms from running simultaneously.

1. Open **Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes**.
2. Click **Customize** on your active theme.
3. Select **App embeds** from the left sidebar.
4. Locate **Pandectes Core**.
5. Switch the toggle **OFF**.
6. If **Faster banner loading (beta)** is enabled, disable it as well.
7. Click **Save**.

Also remove the Pandectes-specific theme scripts and GTM configurations identified in Step 3, replacing any consent-dependent tracking setup with its Consentmo equivalent.
This prevents leftover scripts from interfering with the new banner or sending conflicting consent signals.

## Step 7: Activate the Consentmo Cookie Banner

Once Pandectes has been disabled and its old consent integrations have been addressed, you can activate Consentmo.

1. Return to your **Consentmo Dashboard**.
2. Locate the cookie banner activation section.
3. Click **Activate banner**.
4. In Shopify's theme editor, confirm that the **Consentmo GDPR Compliance** app embed is enabled.
5. Click **Save**.
6. Set the banner status to **Enabled** in Consentmo.

Consentmo will now handle cookie consent on your storefront according to the regions, banner settings, and integrations you've configured.

You can also use **Admin mode** to test the banner before making it publicly visible. For more information, see [How to activate the Consentmo app embed](https://support.consentmo.com/en/article/how-to-activate-the-cookie-banner-to-load-via-app-embed-block-1butzy2/).

## Step 8: Uninstall Pandectes

After activating Consentmo and confirming that the previous banner is no longer running:

1. Go to **Shopify Admin > Settings > Apps and sales channels**.
2. Locate **Pandectes GDPR**.
3. Select **Uninstall**.
4. Confirm the removal.

Check your theme and integrations one final time to make sure there are no remaining Pandectes scripts, consent triggers, or app-specific blocks.

## Step 9: Verify Your Consentmo Setup

Finally, open your storefront in a private or incognito browser window and test the new configuration.

Check that:

* **Only one cookie banner appears:** The Consentmo banner displays without any duplicate Pandectes banner.
* **Consent choices work:** Accept, Reject, and Preferences buttons update consent as configured.
* **Tracking respects consent:** Analytics and marketing services follow the appropriate consent settings.
* **Regional behavior is correct:** The banner and consent requirements match your configured visitor locations.
* **Privacy pages work:** Customers can access the correct privacy request pages.
* **Consent records are collected:** New visitor interactions appear in Consentmo under **Analytics & Reports > Reports > Consent records**.

If your store uses checkout integrations, customer account extensions, or custom pixels, verify those separately. For additional guidance, see [Setting Your Store's Compliance](https://support.consentmo.com/en/article/setting-your-stores-compliance-1tqs8pn/).
