Custom unified Sending Domain setup

How to Set Up a Custom Sending Domain in Consentmo

The Custom Sending Domain functionality allows Consentmo merchants to send automated compliance emails from their own verified domain instead of the default Consentmo sender:

no-reply@mail.consentmo.com

Once configured, the verified domain is used across supported email functionality, including:

  • Smart Privacy Center
  • EU Withdrawal

This helps keep automated emails aligned with your brand and provides customers with a more recognizable sender.

Plan availability: Custom Sending Domain is available on the Plus and Enterprise plans.

How the Custom Sending Domain Works

By default, supported Consentmo emails are sent from:

no-reply@mail.consentmo.com

After connecting and verifying your own domain, outgoing emails are sent using your verified domain instead.

The configuration is managed centrally, so you only need to connect the domain once for it to apply across supported Consentmo email features.

How to Set Up Your Sending Domain

1. Open the Sending Domain settings

From the Consentmo app:

  1. Go to Privacy center
  2. Open the Settings tab
  3. Locate the Sending domain section

You will see the currently active sender together with a Set up domain button.

Alternatively, you can access the same setup from the Emails section of the EU Withdrawal or Smart Privacy Center and select Set up in Settings.

2. Start the domain setup

Click Set up domain.

Enter the domain you want to use for outgoing emails.

For example:

yourstore.com

Consentmo will use the verified domain to create the appropriate branded sending address.

Click Continue to proceed.

3. Add the required DNS records

Consentmo will generate the DNS records required to authenticate your domain.

Copy the provided CNAME records and add them to the DNS settings of your domain provider.

The exact location where these records are added depends on your DNS provider.

DNS changes may take some time to propagate.

4. Verify the domain

Once the required DNS records have been added, return to Consentmo and click Verify.

If the records are detected successfully, the domain status will change to Connected.

If DNS propagation is still in progress, you can finish the setup later and return through:

Privacy center > Settings > Sending domain

Then select Continue setup.

Sending Domain Statuses

Consentmo displays the current status of your sending domain so you can easily follow the setup progress.

Current sender

This means no custom domain has been configured yet.

Emails continue to be sent from:

no-reply@mail.consentmo.com

Use Set up domain to begin the configuration.

Pending verification

This means the domain has been entered, but Consentmo is still waiting for the required DNS records to be verified.

During this stage, emails continue to be sent from the default Consentmo address.

You can return to the settings at any time and select Continue setup.

Connected

This means your custom domain has been successfully verified.

Supported outgoing emails will now use your verified sending domain.

Email Behavior During Setup

Until the custom domain is successfully verified, Consentmo continues sending supported emails from:

no-reply@mail.consentmo.com

This ensures that verification or DNS propagation delays do not interrupt compliance emails.

Once the domain is connected, supported emails automatically switch to the verified sender.

Reply-To Behavior

When the default Consentmo sender is used, a separate Reply-to email address can be configured.

After a custom sending domain is connected, sender and reply-to handling are consolidated through the verified sender configuration.

The relevant email fields will indicate when they are Managed by Consentmo.

Display Name

You can also customize the name customers see as the sender of supported emails.

To change it:

  1. Open the relevant feature, such as EU Withdrawal or Smart Privacy Center
  2. Go to the Emails tab
  3. Locate Email identity
  4. Select Change
  5. Update the Display name

For example:

The display name can be updated separately from the verified sending domain.

Removing a Custom Sending Domain

If you no longer want to use the connected domain, return to:

Privacy center > Settings > Sending domain

Select Remove Sending Domain.

Consentmo will revert supported email functionality to the default sender:

no-reply@mail.consentmo.com

Key Benefits

Using a verified custom sending domain can help you:

  • Keep compliance emails consistent with your store branding
  • Provide customers with a more recognizable sender
  • Configure the sender once for both Smart Privacy Center and EU Withdrawal emails
  • Monitor domain verification status directly from Consentmo
  • Continue sending emails through the Consentmo default while verification is pending
