3. Set up a Privacy Policy page for your store

Creating a Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions page is a must for ensuring that your store complies with different customer privacy laws.

Guide

Shopify offers a helpful guide on setting store policies that can serve as a starting point: Shopify guide on setting store policies

You can manually update your Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions texts to be compliant with all requirements.

For example, some customer privacy laws require explicit details about the types of personal data collected, the purpose of collection, and the data retention period. Other require information on consumers' rights for managing their personal data and the methods for submitting data subject access requests.

To be fully compliant, you must clearly explain these transparency details. For guidance on the transparency requirements on the different customer privacy laws, check the article here: What are the transparency requirements for the different Customer Privacy Laws?

NOTE: It is also important to keep these documents updated with the latest legal standards and to reflect any changes in your data handling practices.

Legal advice

If you're not certain about the legal part and require a more customized policy that aligns with your business, consider seeking legal counsel.

Legal professionals can provide the most accurate advice tailored to your specific business needs, ensuring that your store isn't just compliant, but also provides transparency and builds trust with your customers.

Automation

Now Shopify provide an automated option for setting the Privacy Policy page on the store.

The option can be enabled by following these steps:
