Consentmo Age Gate: Setup and Configuration Guide

The Age Gate in Consentmo lets you restrict access to selected areas of your Shopify store based on a minimum age requirement.

You can set a default age, apply regional rules, choose how visitors confirm their age, customize where the gate appears, and match its design and content to your storefront.

Plan availability: The Age Gate is available on the Plus and Enterprise plans.

How to Access the Age Gate

  1. Open the Consentmo GDPR app.
  2. Go to Age gate.
  3. Click Set up Age Gate.
  4. Configure the Setup, Design, and Content sections.
  5. Review the preview and click Publish when ready.

Setup

The Setup section controls how the Age Gate works and where it is displayed.

Banner layout

Choose how the Age Gate appears to visitors:

  • Centered popup

Displays the age check in a modal over the storefront.

  • Full page

Displays the Age Gate as a full-page experience before visitors can continue.

Age requirement

  • Default minimum age

Set the minimum age visitors must meet to enter the restricted area of your store.

Country of residence

Enable Regional rules to configure different minimum ages for specific countries or regions.

This is useful when age requirements differ depending on the visitor's location.

Verification method

Choose how visitors confirm their age:

  • Confirm button

Visitors select a button confirming that they meet the minimum age.
  • Date of birth

Visitors enter their full date of birth and their age is calculated automatically.
  • Birth year

Visitors enter their year of birth and their age is calculated automatically.

The Confirm button option relies on visitor self-confirmation and does not independently verify identity or date of birth.

Where it appears

Choose which storefront pages display the Age Gate:

  • Show on all pages
  • Show only on the homepage
  • Show on all pages EXCEPT the following
  • Show only on these pages

These options allow you to apply age restrictions across the entire store or only to selected areas.

Remember verification

Choose how long Consentmo should remember a successful age confirmation before asking the visitor again.

For example, you can keep the verification active for 30 days.

Design

The Design section lets you customize the appearance of the Age Gate.

Popup styling

You can customize:

  • Background
  • Text
  • Error text
  • Confirm button
  • Exit button
  • Corner radius
  • Background blur

The background blur setting controls how much of the storefront remains visible behind the Age Gate.

Enable this option to display your store logo inside the Age Gate.

Custom CSS

Add custom CSS for more advanced styling changes.

Example:

#age_gate {
padding: 24px;
}

Use the desktop and mobile preview controls to review the appearance before publishing.

Content

The Content section controls the customer-facing text displayed in the Age Gate.

Languages

Enable the multilingual age verification page to customize the Age Gate for the languages supported by your Shopify store.

Select a language to edit its content. The default store language is marked accordingly.

Popup text

Customize the following elements:

  • Title

The main heading displayed in the Age Gate.

  • Message

The text explaining the minimum age requirement.

  • Confirm button text

The label visitors select when confirming that they meet the required age.

  • Exit button text

The label shown to visitors who do not want to continue.

  • Underage message

The message displayed when a visitor does not meet the minimum age.

  • Footer disclaimer

Additional information displayed beneath the Age Gate actions.

  • Error text

The message shown when an invalid date or birth year is entered.

  • Linked page path

Add a store path or full URL that can be referenced from the footer disclaimer.

Available placeholders

Use:

  • {age} to automatically insert the applicable minimum age.
  • {page} to insert a link using the configured Linked page path.

Preview

Use the preview to check both Age Gate states before publishing:

  • Age check – Shows the initial verification screen.
  • Underage – Shows what visitors see when they do not meet the minimum age.

You can also switch between desktop and mobile views.

Once your configuration is ready:

  1. Review the Age Gate preview.
  2. Click Publish.
  3. Open your storefront and confirm that the Age Gate appears on the intended pages.
