Klaviyo Integration for Consentmo GDPR app

The Consentmo GDPR app integrates with Klaviyo to help Shopify merchants manage Klaviyo tracking based on visitors' cookie consent and extend privacy request handling to Klaviyo profiles.

The integration now includes two main parts:

• Cookie consent integration – controls Klaviyo tracking based on the visitor's Marketing cookie preferences.
• Private API integration – connects Consentmo with Klaviyo to support profile deletion when a customer submits a Delete my data request.

Cookie Consent Integration

The cookie consent integration helps ensure that Klaviyo's tracking activity follows the visitor's Marketing cookie preferences collected through Consentmo.

Integration Steps

To configure the cookie consent integration:

1. Add the required Klaviyo integration script to your Shopify theme.
2. The script will control Klaviyo's tracking activity based on the visitor's consent.

How It Works

Once configured, the integration controls Klaviyo's tracking based on the visitor's cookie preferences in the Consentmo Cookie Banner.

The integration uses Klaviyo's __kla_off cookie. When the visitor does not allow Marketing cookies, this value can be used to prevent Klaviyo from tracking the visitor.

When the appropriate consent is provided, Klaviyo can operate according to the visitor's selected preferences.

Klaviyo Private API Integration

Consentmo can also connect directly to Klaviyo through a Private API key.

This connection enables additional privacy request functionality and allows Consentmo to communicate securely with Klaviyo when handling customer data deletion requests.

Create Your Klaviyo Private API Key

To use the API integration, first create a Private API key in Klaviyo.

In your Klaviyo account, go to:

Settings → API keys

Create a Private API key with the following scopes:

• accounts:read
• data-privacy:write

These permissions allow Consentmo to establish the connection with your Klaviyo account and process supported privacy deletion requests.

Only provide the permissions required for the integration.

Connect Klaviyo With Consentmo

Once you have created the Private API key:

1. Open the Consentmo GDPR app.
2. Navigate to the Integrations section.
3. Find Klaviyo: Email Marketing & SMS.
4. Enable the Klaviyo integration.
5. Paste your Klaviyo Private API key into the provided field.
6. Click Test connection to verify that Consentmo can successfully communicate with your Klaviyo account.

A Private API key is required while this functionality is enabled.

Delete Klaviyo Profiles With Privacy Requests

After connecting the Private API, you can enable:

Delete Klaviyo profile on "Delete my data" requests

When this option is enabled and a customer submits a Delete my data request through your Consentmo Privacy Center, Consentmo will also schedule the corresponding Klaviyo profile for deletion.

The Klaviyo profile deletion is scheduled for 10 days after the request, following the same cancellation window used for the associated Shopify deletion process.

This means that a single deletion request submitted through Consentmo can also cover the customer's corresponding profile stored in Klaviyo.

If the deletion request is cancelled within the applicable cancellation period, the scheduled deletion can be stopped before it is processed.

This functionality applies specifically to Delete my data requests. Other privacy request types do not trigger deletion of the customer's Klaviyo profile.

What Does the Integration Cover?

Once fully configured, the Consentmo and Klaviyo integration can help with two separate areas:

Cookie Consent

The storefront integration controls Klaviyo tracking according to the visitor's Marketing cookie preferences.

Data Deletion Requests

The Private API connection allows Consentmo to include the customer's Klaviyo profile when processing supported Delete my data requests.

These functions complement each other but serve different purposes. The storefront integration manages tracking and consent, while the Private API integration extends privacy request handling to Klaviyo.
