Setting your store's compliance

To have all the settings in the store and our app set as per the law requirements, we recommend the following:

Select the Regions for Customer Privacy settings

After 12th of December 2024 our app is already integrated with the Shopify API which allows you to set the regions where you need the Shopify Customer Privacy settings applied, to be set directly from the app settings.
Navigate to the Consent banner tab of our app
Open the Geolocation section.
Choose the regions where you want the cookie bar to be displayed for and data to be collected only after consent and Save the changes.

Setting up the Customer Privacy regions via Shopify

Navigate to your store's Settings >> Customer Privacy section. In the Cookie Banner page, go to More actions and select Set custom banner regions

From the modal, choose the regions in which you want the data to be collected by Shopify after consent and click Save, as shown HERE

Change the initial state of the cookie groups

In the app settings from the Consent banner tab > **Behavior **> Default mode of checkboxes set all the cookie groups to be unchecked/blocked initially, as shown here:

Google Tag Manager Integration

GTM gallery template integration for Consentmo GDPR app (Automatic)

You can set the integration for the Google Tag Manager container with our app via the gallery template available in the GTM settings.

This way you will **automatically **have an integration for the Google Consent Mode V2 for all tags running via the GTM container as well.

Google Tag Manager will be set based on a condition, which is checking one of the cookies that are set by our app. This cookie is storing information on which exact cookie group is blocked currently, either based on the initial state or the preferences of each customer.

When the initial state is set to block the Analytics or Marketing cookie groups, or the customer opts out, the script which is setting the Google Tag Manager will not be executed.

Facebook Pixel integration for Consentmo GDPR app

How it works

Our app deletes the Facebook Pixel cookies when the page loads. However, those cookies are then created by Facebook again on the next page load. Because of that, we are removing the cookies on every refresh. With that said, when a customer visits a page, a small bit of information is sent to Facebook Pixel.

We are using this method because Shopify's limitations prevent us from getting the tracking codes for each store.

When the initial state is set to block the Analytics and **Marketing **cookie groups or the customer opts out, the script that is setting the Facebook Pixel will not be executed.

Integration Steps

Open Shopify Admin.
Click on Online Store link in the left menubar.
Click on the Actions dropdown button and select Edit Code from there.
A new page will open with a list of files on the left side of the screen.

Change my cookies choice (footer link)

Setting an option for the store visitors to change their cookies choice is a recommendation by the customer privacy laws. here are the option you have for setting this either as a link or a button in one of the pages of the store.

Link option

If you decide to set this in the footer of the store, please follow the steps below:

Go to the Online store tab of the Store admin
Select Pagessection
Select the Add page option on the top right of the page
Set a title for the new page, "Cookie preferences" for example
Set the page into HTML view by hitting the ** Show HTML** option
The HTML below needs to be added in the page

The integration will be done with an additional script. The script below will block Google Ads based on its Global Tag.

8. Option for visitors to change consent

The GDPR rules require making it easy for visitors to withdraw consent and should be as simple as giving it. We also recommend adding an option to your online store that lets users easily change their cookie settings.

Privacy widget - Re-open cookie banner

For those on Plus and Enterprise plans, the process of reopening the cookie banner to change cookie preferences is even more streamlined and can be found within the app's settings.

This section, located under Consent banner tab > **Design **section > Show privacy widget , automates the option for visitors to revisit their consent decisions.
